OSSTF still without a deal

While the province has reached tentative deals with the Public Elementary Teachers union and support staff represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees, there’s still one major group still without a contract. The OSSTF, which is one of the unions representing Ontario School Support staff, provided a bargaining update today. Its President, Paul Elliott, says it has no intention of withdrawing work-to-rule action.
The government has given trustee associations power to dock the workers’ pay by 10%, but the union calls this disrespectful and says it will ramp up job action if that happens.
Elliott expressed his frustration, saying the government’s lack of willingness to bargain has led to his members starting a limited withdrawal of duties. He says the OSSTF has similar issues to ETFO and CUPE, and that the province’s latest move is one of retaliation.
Yesterday, the province reached tentative contract deals with EFTO and one of the unions representing support staff. It says details of its tentative contract deals won’t be released until the agreements are ratified.
