A young couple in their thirties are now $50 million dollars richer after one of them simply stopped at the store to pick up ice cream. The couple — who are planning to get married –picked up the big cheque in Toronto this afternoon.

30-year old Deanna Bergeron and her 32-year old fiancée Jeff say they’re still in a daze after picking up their 50 million dollar cheque.

The couple discovered they won after Bergeron’s mother called her the Sunday after the September 5th draw to ask if they bought a ticket because it had been announced someone in Orillia had picked the winning numbers. They say it has been a roller coaster of emotions — filled with plenty of happy tears and they’re turning to a financial advisor to help guide them. Earlier today we caught up with the pair who are giving credit for the win to a stolen dessert.

Deanna Bergeron and Jeff Bourret: “I had to replace an ice cream Drumstick that I ate that was Jeff’s so I had to replace it. So I went to the store because I knew he’d be upset that I ate the last one and it was his. So I went to the store, bought him an ice cream Drumstick and picked up a lotto ticket.”

So how do they plan to spend all that cash? The couple says they want to help out their families, take a vacation, buy a new car and they’re getting married.
