OPP uses spike belt to stop stolen transport truck on QEW

Two men have been arrested following a police chase that spanned from Mississauga to Grimsby.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said the “bizarre situation” unfolded overnight Monday, starting on Highway 403 near Highway 407.
Officers tried to pull over a stolen tractor trailer on the highway but the driver would not stop.
OPP says the truck travelled down the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) through Burlington and Hamilton before heading onto Highway 403 towards Brantford.
The driver then turned around and came back towards Niagara Falls. It made it all the way to Casablanca Blvd. in Grimsby when it turned around again and headed back on the Toronto-bound QEW.
Officers were able to set up a spike belt to deflate the tires and the vehicle finally came to a stop near Fruitland Rd. in Stoney Creek.
Schmidt says two men were subsequently arrested and are facing “a list of charges.”
The QEW was shut down in both directions while during the investigation but has since reopened.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and more details will likely be released Monday.
