OPP urges motorcycle safety
The Ontario Provincial Police are appealing to motorcycle drivers to keep safe on the road.
This, after reports show a large uptick in motorcycle collision deaths in Ontario this year.
Police say that motorcycle fatalities on OPP patrolled roads are up 300 percent this year over last year, with 4 deaths so far – all occurring in the month of May.
Investigations into the collisions revealed two of the accidents involved excessive speed, while the other two were driving properly at the time of the collisions.
Police say the incidents are a reminder that even safe motorcyclists are vulnerable when sharing the road with motor vehicle drivers, who play an important role in motorcycle safety.
Police are reminding motorcyclists to watch their speed, drive alcohol-and-drug-free and make themselves as visible as possible to other drivers.
They are also reminding motor vehicle drivers to keep an eye out for motorcycles and ensure they are doing frequent blind spot checks.
