OPP safety blitz on Highway 6

Monday was the first of a two day safety blitz the OPP are conducting across both stretches of Highway 6 and the slippery roads did not stop drivers from surpassing the 80 km/h limit.

“A day like today, roads are wet visibility is reduced, you got to make sure your full head lighting system is on, you’re looking way down the road.” Kerry Schmidt, OPP.

The main focus is the leading causes of death on the highway; impaired, distracted, aggressive driving and not wearing a seat belt.

Highway 6 has fewer barriers and rumble strips than other highways, OPP say collision on highway 6 can result in very serious injuries or fatalities.

Last November around 300 charges were laid on the OPP’s highway 6 blitz.
