OPP investigated 9 deaths, laid over 8, 800 charges Canada Day Weekend

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says it was a deadly weekend for some families.
Five of the nine deaths were on OPP patrolled roads, the other three were drowning incidents. He says none of the drownings were related to boats.
Officers across the province conducted a long weekend safety blitz focused on aggressive drivers. Over 8, 800 charges were laid for offences ranging from street racing to distracted driving.
Schmidt is reminding drivers not to hold their mobile devices while driving this summer.
He says, to “consider your actions and consider the consequences that come as a result of making poor decisions.”
Some collisions are still under investigations.
The OPP are urging the public to call them if they see dangerous driving.
