OPP identify golfer killed after violent rain storm in Erin

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has identified the man who died following a violent rainstorm in Erin, Ont. on Saturday.

Police say 59-year-old William Elliott, of Halton Hills, died after severe weather brought down a tree and hydro lines at Calerin Golf Club.

Elliott was inside the clubhouse when a violent storm ripped through the area around 6 p.m.

Police say power lines had fallen onto his truck in the parking lot and Elliott attempted to approach his vehicle to put out a small fire that had ignited.

He suddenly collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wellington County OPP, OPP Forensic Identification Services, and the Office of the Chief Coroner continue to investigate the incident.

A post-mortem is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
