OPP give more than 8,000 tickets in Canada Day safety blitz

It was a very busy weekend for the OPP as they carried out their Canada Day long weekend enforcement and education campaign.
The holiday weekend ended in the death of two people on the roads, but there were no boating or all-terrain fatalities. The OPP laid over 8,000 tickets for speeding, impaired and distracted driving, and seat belt violations.
In one of those fatal crashes, provincial police say they found a Buick on its roof in a ditch, about 100 kilometres north of Belleville yesterday. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
