Ontario Provincial Police are reminding parents to talk to their kids about what to do if they get separated in a public place.

This comes as Norfolk OPP were called after a child was found walking in Lake Erie at Pottahawk Island on Saturday afternoon.

The six-year-old got separated from his family and was unable to find them.

Police say a Good Samaritan brought the boy aboard their vessel.

The boy was eventually reunited with his parents.

Police say parents can:

  • Teach kids to stay in one location and stay calm if they become separated from their parents
  • Have an established family meeting location where you can reconnect
  • Dress your child in bright or reflective program that you would recognize
