Hamilton sees increase in opioid-related emergencies

Hamilton has seen an increase in the amount of opioid-related emergencies over the last two years.

There were 81 incidents reported in the month of February. Hamilton Paramedic Services is reminding those at risk of overdosing, or those who know someone at risk of overdosing, they are eligible for a free Naloxone kit.

The kits can be found at many pharmacies and community organizations. EMS superintendent Dave Thompson says city officials are teaming up with emergency crews to try and bring the number of overdoses down.

The month of March has seen 11 opioid-related paramedic calls. A new report says men accounted for 73 per cent of calls, with the average age being 36.
