Operation Avalanche is a found-footage thriller written by Matt Johnson and Josh Boles, and directed by Johnson (The Dirties). The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year and stars Johnson, Boles, and Owen Williams.
1967: the height of the Cold War. The CIA suspects there is a Russian mole inside of NASA, sabotaging the Apollo program. They send two young agents on a mission to go undercover, posing as documentary filmmakers to capture NASA’s race to the moon. The real mission – use their access and technology to hunt down the leak. But what they discover is far more shocking than soviet spies… Their government may be hiding a secret about Apollo that could define the decade, and the White House will stop at nothing to silence anyone who learns it.
Talking to SlashFilm, Johnson about his inspiration for the film. “It was a desire to tell a story about liars, fakers and the compulsion to fool people and where that comes from. Our first movie did a lot of that. In The Dirties…I think some of the most fun we had making that was taking reality and mixing it with our fake story and challenging the audience to figure out which was which.”
Operation Avalanche is rated 14A.
