Ontario’s top police watchdog investigates serious motorcycle crash in Port Colborne

A collision between two motorcycles in Port Colborne early Friday morning has sent both riders to hospital with serious injuries.

A Niagara police officer was conducting a patrol on Empire Road near Sherkston Shores around 12:25 a.m. before two motorcycles sped past them.

The officer says they attempted to pull them over before the two motorcycles crashed into each other.

Security video from a nearby home shows both motorcycles were traveling southbound on Empire Road when one bike stopped to make a U-turn before being struck by the bike behind it.

One rider was transported to an out-of-region hospital by helicopter, and the other rider was transported to a hospital for minor injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit has been notified and have invoked their mandate.
