Ontario’s top doctor is expected to provide an update on Thursday on the COVID-19 situation in the province.

Dr. Kieran Moore will hold his weekly news conference at 3 p.m.

It comes a day after Ontario’s health minister said the province will keep its mask mandate and vaccine certificate system in place.

On Wednesday, Ontario also announced rapid test kits would be made available for free at grocery stores, pharmacies and other sites.

The province says it will be making 44 million rapid tests available to the public for free over the coming weeks.

Moore said while testing is a critical component in the province’s response to COVID-19, vaccination remains the best defence against the virus and its variants.
