Ontario’s science table releases final briefs

The Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory table says the burden of COVID-19 will be put on primary care doctors and nurses if no new variant emerges.

The defunct science table released its final three briefs today. It focused on the response to the pandemic by family doctors and nurses.

They say the way medical care is delivered most be reconsidered.

The table says primary care teams with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and community health care workers provide better care than solo practitioners.

Some of those teams were able to fill the gap in rural and underprivileged parts of the province. However, more are needed on a permanent basis.

Public Health Ontario dissolved the independent voluntary science table in September.

A new group is expected to convene sometime this month. That group would also be under the watch of Public Health Ontario.
