Ontario’s big shift to electric vehicles gets another multi-billion $ boost

Ontario’s big shift to electric vehicles is getting another multi-billion-dollar boost.
Delegates from all levels of government were in Windsor on Monday for the announcement.
Stellantis will be investing $3.6 billion to retool its Brantford and Windsor plants to produce zero-emission vehicles.
Both the provincial and federal governments will spend $513 million each on the upgrades, including a research and development facility in Windsor.
Minister of Economic Development Vic Fedeli says the benefits from Stellantis’ investment aren’t locked to just Windsor and Brampton.
“Northern Ontario communities can now truly participate in Ontario’s auto industry because Northern Ontario is where you’ll find a concentrator of critical minerals unlike anywhere else in the world,” said Fedeli.
The Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis didn’t announce which cars will be made at either the Windsor or Brampton plants.
Stellantis isn’t new to Windsor, it recently announced $5 billion in separate spending to create Ontario’s first large-scale electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant in that city.
