Ontario to introduce legislation on long-term care standards

Ontario is set to introduce legislation Thursday to reform standards in the province’s long-term care sector.
The legislation is expected to focus on protecting residents. It will feature new accountability and enforcement measures and residents’ rights.
The proposed law would also give long-term care inspectors the power to lay charges on the spot.
It is expected to be laid out this afternoon.
The long-term care sector was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, experiencing countless outbreaks and resident deaths.
