Ontario students struggling with math

Ontario students are getting a gold star for literacy, but are struggling with other subjects.

That’s according to testing results released by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).

It shows Grade three and six students are high achievers, and are making progress in literacy. Results also show grade nine students are also doing well in academic math.

Students in elementary grades and in grade nine applied math, however, aren’t doing so well. The percentage of students at or above the provincial level either held steady from five years earlier, or decreased in some cases.

The percentage of students surpassing the provincial standard is up five per cent in grade three reading and up nine per cent in grade six reading, however.
