Ontario Science advisory table calls for further action to control pandemic

Ontario’s science advisers say the province’s hospitals are “buckling” and Ontario is now facing the most challenging health crisis of our time.
The Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table says stronger measures are urgently needed to reduce transmission and protect the health care system.
The group says the way forward is to pay essential workers to stay home when sick, exposed or need time off to get vaccinated. Accelerating vaccination to essential workers, hotspot neighbourhoods and the vulnerable population and closing more non-essential
workplaces.
The table says that policies that discourage safe outdoor activity will disproportionately harm children and those who do not have access to green spaces, especially those living in crowded conditions.
It also says the government must not impose policies that harm or neglect racialized, marginalized and other vulnerable populations.
