Ontario reports 797 new COVID-19 cases, four new deaths

Ontario is reporting 797 new cases of COVID-19 and four new deaths.
Thursday’s daily increase is the highest number of new cases seen since the beginning of the pandemic.
The province also completed a record number of tests: 48,488.
The backlog of tests that remain under investigation is over 58,000.
Another 695 cases have been marked as resolved.
New case numbers in Toronto, Ottawa and Peel remain the highest in the province.
Ontario is reporting 797 cases of #COVID19 as nearly 48,500 tests were completed. This is the largest number of tests completed to date. Locally, there are 265 new cases in Toronto, 182 in Ottawa, 134 in Peel and 78 in York Region. There are 695 more resolved cases.

There are 206 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 47 are in ICU and 29 of those are on ventilators.
The total number of deaths is 2,992.
Here’s how the numbers break down in our region:
Haldimand-Norfolk: 0 new cases, 4 active cases
Brant: 2 new cases, 7 active cases
Niagara: 9 new cases, 131 active cases
Halton: 39 new cases, 166 active cases
Hamilton: 24 new cases, 122 active cases
The province also reported 100 new COVID-19 cases related to schools, including at least 51 among students.
