Ontario is reporting 677 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and six more deaths related to the virus.

The data is based on 37,630 tests completed on the previous day.

The province says 44,754 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the last 24-hour period for a total of more than 21.5 million.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says nearly 85.5 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and nearly 79.6 per cent have two doses.

Elliott says 307 people are currently in hospital due to COVID-19. She says of those in hospital, 273 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 34 are fully vaccinated.

There are currently 193 patients in intensive care with COVID-related critical illnesses and 134 on ventilators.

Of the province’s 626 long-term care homes, at least 13 are in an outbreak including Macassa Lodge in Hamilton, Pine Villa Nursing Home in Stoney Creek, R. H. Lawson Eventide Home in Niagara Falls and Hampton Terrace Care Centre in Burlington.

An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
