Ontario reports 590 COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths

Ontario reported 590 cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths on Thursday, a day before most of the province enters the first step of reopening.

The reported positivity rate is two per cent, with the province completing 31,423 tests in the last day.

Here are the COVID-19 numbers for our region

Hamilton

  • 20,950 total cases — up 35 from Wednesday
  • 19,775 resolved cases
  • 332 active cases
  • 43 in hospital
  • 395 deaths

Niagara

  • 15,997 total cases — up 17 from Wednesday
  • 15,193 resolved cases
  • 394 active cases
  • 410 deaths
  • 25 in hospital

Brant

  • 3,347 total cases  — up 13 from Wednesday
  • 3,275 resolved cases
  • 52 active cases
  • 20 deaths
  • 3 in hospital

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 2,678 total cases — up five from Wednesday
  • 2,591 resolved cases
  • 34 active cases
  • 47 deaths

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 in Ontario is down to 516 from 571. There are 450 patients in intensive care units with 291 of them on ventilators.

There were 182,350 vaccine doses administered on Wednesday. There are nearly 1.4 million people who have received both required vaccine doses.

Another 939 cases have been marked as resolved.
