Ontario reports 554 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday

Ontario is reporting 554 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and 16 more deaths related to the virus.
The Ministry of Health says 11 of the deaths being reported today occurred over the last seven days and the remaining happened more than a week ago.
The data is based on more than 21,840 tests completed on the previous day.
The province says 38,174 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the last 24-hour period for a total of more than 21 million.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says 83.9 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and nearly 77.4 per cent have two doses.
There are currently 194 patients in intensive care with COVID-related critical illnesses and 115 on ventilators.
The province says of those in hospital, 275 are unvaccinated individuals, 21 are partially vaccinated and 36 are fully vaccinated.
Of the province’s 626 long-term care homes, at least seven are in an outbreak including R. H. Lawson Eventide Home in Niagara Falls and Hampton Terrace Care Centre in Burlington.
An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
