Ontario reports 4,249 COVID-19 cases, 26 deaths

Ontario reported 4,249 cases of COVID-19 and 26 deaths on Friday.

The Ministry of Health says the daily number includes “approximately” 450 cases from Toronto that weren’t reported before because of a data upload delay.

The ministry says these cases were primarily from Jan. 5 and Jan. 6.

Here are the COVID-19 numbers for our region

Hamilton

  • 7,198 total cases — up 200 from Thursday
  • 5,243 resolved cases
  • 1,675 active cases
  • 196 deaths — up three from Thursday

Halton

  • 6,799 total cases — up 92 from Thursday
  • 5,875 resolved cases
  • 794 active cases
  • 130 deaths — up one from Thursday

Niagara

  • 4,920 total cases — up 191 from Thursday
  • 3,721 resolved cases
  • 1,013 active cases
  • 186 deaths — up 15 from Thursday

Brant

  • 1,082 total cases — up 19 from Thursday
  • 899 resolved cases
  • 177 active cases
  • 6 deaths
  • 8 in hospital

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,049 total cases — up 8 from Thursday
  • 853 resolved cases
  • 156 active cases
  • 35 deaths

Six Nations

  • 121 total cases — up 2 from Thursday
  • 111 resolved cases
  • 9 active cases
  • 1 death

The numbers come as the province completed 71,481 tests – a large jump from earlier this week.

A total of 4,882 people have died with about 60 per cent of those deaths coming from residents in long-term care.

There are 1,446 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario. There are 369 people in intensive care, with 250 of them on ventilators.

Another 2,738 cases of the virus have been marked as resolved. Overall, just over 84 per cent of the province’s 208,394 cases are resolved.

The province has administered a total of 87,563 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as of 8 p.m. on Thursday. 14,932 of those were administered on Thursday.
