Ontario reports 421 new cases of COVID-19 Friday

Ontario is reporting 421 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, and 39 more deaths.
There are now 16,608 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province, marking a 2.6 increase over Thursday.
The total includes 1,121 deaths and 10,825 resolved cases.
The province says eight more outbreaks have been declared at long-term care homes. The Public Health Ontario Daily Epidemiologic Summary says there have been 198 outbreaks at facilities in Ontario since Jan. 15.
There are currently just over 1,000 patients in hospital with COVID-19, with 225 people in the intensive care unit (ICU). Of those in the ICU, 175 are on a ventilator to assist with breathing.
More than 16,000 tests were completed on Thursday and nearly 12,000 cases are still under investigation.
As of Thursday, there were 483 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Niagara Region, 456 cases in Halton Region, and 431 in Hamilton.
