Ontario reports 3,215 COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths as more restrictions loom

Ontario reported 3,215 cases of COVID-19 and 17 deaths on Wednesday, as Premier Doug Ford prepares to announce new restrictions on the province.
The daily case count comes as the province completed 49,889 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were done, is 6.7 per cent.
Ontario is reporting 3,215 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 49,900 tests completed. Locally, there are 1,095 new cases in Toronto, 596 in Peel, 342 in York Region, 225 in Ottawa and 187 in Durham.

Sources tell CHCH News the new stay-at-home order will last for four weeks and will restrict non-essential retail and increase vaccinations for essential industries.

There are 1,397 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across Ontario. There are 504 people in intensive care units and 311 of them are on ventilators.
A total of 7,475 people have died.
Another 2,407 cases have been marked as resolved and the province administered another 104,382 vaccine doses since Tuesday’s report.
There are 324,783 people in Ontario who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
There are now 2,291 confirmed cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, which was first reported in the U.K., up from 2,165 reported on Tuesday.
There are 71 confirmed cases of the B.1.351 strain, first reported in South Africa and 120 confirmed cases of the P.1 strain first reported in Brazil.
