Ontario reports 309 new cases of COVID-19 Monday

Ontario is reporting 309 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the provincial total to 4,347.

The total number includes 1,624 resolved cases and 132 deaths.

The new cases represent a 7.7 per cent increase in the past 24 hours, but the number of resolved cases jumped by more than 37 per cent.

The province has completed roughly 78,796 tests and 329 are currently under investigation.

There are 589 patients in hospital with the virus, including 216 who are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Of those in the ICU, 160 are on a ventilator which assists the patient with breathing.

As of Sunday, Hamilton had 155 cases of COVID-19, Halton had 142 and Niagara had 136 confirmed cases.

The province says 47 per cent of cases are male, while 52 per cent are female. Thirty-five per cent of cases are 60 years of age and older.

There are currently 46 outbreaks reported in long-term care homes across the province.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton has declared a “healthcare worker outbreak” after three of its employees in the special care nursery tested positive of COVID-19. Health officials say no babies or parents in the unit are showing symptoms of the virus.
