Ontario reports 1,009 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday
Ontario is reporting 1,009 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday and eight deaths related to the virus.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says 507 of the infected people are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status. She says 502 of the cases are in fully vaccinated people.
The data is based on 38,502 tests completed on the previous day.
There are 155 patients in intensive care due to COVID-related critical illness, including 97 people on ventilators.
The province says a total of more than 24.1 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
Elliott says 90.1 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and 87.4 per cent have two doses.
At least seven of the province’s 626 long-term care homes currently have a COVID-19 outbreak declared at the facility, including Shalom Manor Long Term Care Home in Grimsby.
An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
