UPDATE:

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after a Hamilton police officer shot at a man early Thursday morning.

The Special Investigations Unit says a Hamilton police officer found a person of interest around 1 a.m. in the area of Main St. East and Victoria Ave. South.

The 44-year-old man ran away when the officer tried to engage with him. Police followed the man and notified other officers on the location of the man and that he may have had a firearm.

Hamilton police contained the man in a parking lot on East Ave. North between King William St. and King St. East.

Multiple officers had to taser the man during the interaction. Another officer shot at the man, but he was not hit. The man was then arrested and charged with firearm-related offences.
