Ontario has not completed the first round of COVID-19 vaccines in every long-term care home in the province, as previously reported.

In a news release sent out Thursday morning, the provincial government announced it had met its deadline of vaccinating every eligible resident of long-term care who wanted a shot.

It noted that more than 62,000 residents have received at least one dose of the virus.

On Thursday afternoon, the office of long-term care minister Dr. Merrilee Fullerton confirmed there was a “miscommunication.”

“It was reported that 100 per cent of homes had received their first vaccines when a small number of homes have not completed them yet,” said a statement from the minister’s press secretary.

“We expect these outstanding homes to be finished in the coming days. We sincerely regret the error.”

Ontario had committed to vaccinating every eligible resident who wanted a shot by Wednesday.

The government’s initial news release has been taken down.
