Ont. Liberal gov’t promises GO service upgrades

The Ontario government has announced plans for a GO electric train service just days after promising to spend $29 billion over the next 10 years on transit.
Wynne says they plan on phasing in electric train service every 15-minutes on all GO transit lines, which would offer a faster and more flexible way to get in and out of Toronto. Earlier this week, Wynne said their Moving Ontario Forward plan would allocate $15 billion to improving transit in the Toronto and Hamilton area. Both the premier and Ontario’s transportation minister Glen Murray were in Toronto for the announcement.
“If you’re a mom with your kids and you’re late to the station, you know there is going to be another train thats’ going to come along in the next 15 or so minutes,” said Wynne.
Murray also stressed the significance of the promise, saying, “this is the single, most important and transformative transportation decision in the history of Ontario since we first introduced subways over half a century ago.”
Wynne says details on how the government plans to fund the new transit plan will be released in the upcoming budget.
