The Ontario government has announced a $750 million investment to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs at post-secondary institutions across the province.

The investment is intended to fund up to 20,500 STEM seats per year to build a skilled Ontario-based talent pool.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent tariffs have sparked economic uncertainty across the province. The Ontario government says this investment is intended to build up the economy and make the province “one of the most competitive places in the G7.”

“Our government is working to protect Ontario by building a more resilient economy that can withstand whatever comes our way, including tariffs and economic uncertainty from the U.S.,” said Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security.

Quinn added that post-secondary institutions are vital for arming the economy with a highly skilled workforce. The new investment is expected to expand training capacity and set up more students with good-paying jobs.

Publicly-assisted colleges and universities can access this STEM funding as soon as they sign their recently finalized 2025–30 operating funding agreements.
