Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the province is investing 1.3 million dollars to prepare 54 people from underrepresented groups for careers in the trucking industry.

Those people will include women, newcomers and members of other underrepresented groups.

Stephen Laskowski, president of the Ontario Trucking Association, says Ontario is facing a major trucking skills and labour shortage.

The Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada is leading the project, which aims to provide participants with up to 200 hours of training required to receive tractor trailer and straight truck licences.
