Ontario government looking to eliminate licence plate sticker fee

The Ontario government is looking to scrap the annual fee motorists pay to renew their licence plate stickers.

CHCH News has learned the plan is being discussed by the Ontario cabinet but has not been finalized.

It would save drivers $120 per year for each registered passenger vehicle.

It is likely that motorists will still have to renew their plate yearly but without the fee.

An announcement could be part of Premier Doug Ford’s pre-election budget, which is expected next month.

The sticker renewal fee brings in about $1 billion a year in revenue for the province.
