Ontario exceeds 3,000 new COVID-19 cases for first time since May

Ontario is reporting 3,124 new COVID-19 cases Friday and five deaths related to the virus.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says 1,004 of the infected people are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status. She says 2,120 of the cases are in fully vaccinated people.
The data is based on 51,636 tests completed on the previous day.
Elliott says there are 358 patients in hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 273 are unvaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status and 83 are fully vaccinated.
The province says 157 individuals are in intensive care due to COVID-related critical illness, including 98 people on ventilators.
More than 25 million doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
Elliott says 90.4 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received one dose and 87.7 per cent have two doses.
At least 13 of the province’s 626 long-term care homes currently have a COVID-19 outbreak declared at the facility.
An active COVID-19 outbreak indicates that the home has at least one lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 (in resident or staff) and the local public health unit or the home has declared an outbreak.
