Ontario confirms 4 new cases of coronavirus including patient who travelled to Las Vegas

Ontario has confirmed four new cases of coronavirus including a patient who recently returned from a trip to Las Vegas.

Officials say a man in his forties returned from Las Vegas on Feb. 28 and was seen by staff at Toronto Western Hospital. He was sent home and remains in self-isolation with minimal contact with others.

A married couple who was aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship which travelled from San Francisco to Mexico from Feb. 11 to 21 are also currently in isolation. The man and woman, both in their sixties, returned to Canada on Feb. 28 and were treated at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga.

Another man in his fifties returned from Iran on Feb. 27 and went to North York General Hospital’s emergency department in Toronto on Tuesday. He was also discharged and is currently in self-isolation.

Both Peel Public Health and Toronto Public Health are continuing to work closely with Public Health Ontario to ensure the patients are being safely and appropriately cared for and that other patients, staff and the community are well-protected.

The total number of confirmed cases of the virus, known as COVID-19, in Ontario is now 26.

The province says four of those cases are resolved, with those patients having two consecutive negative tests at least 24 hours apart.

Officials say the virus is not circulating locally at this time but the province is actively working with city and health partners to plan for the potential of local spread.

Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Williams will provide an update on the situation during a news conference Monday afternoon.
