The only person ever convicted in the Air India bombing in 1985 was released today. Inderjit Singh Reyat left prison earlier today after serving 5.5 out of 7 years in jail.

The Canadian national is responsible for building the bombs that killed 329 people, mainly Canadian, who boarded flight 182 to India via Toronto. Two Japanese airport staff also died while handling a second bomb before it boarded another plane.

Reyet was first arrested in 1988 but was never convicted of the mass murder, the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history. He was convicted of man slaughter twice, and later perjury after he lied in court, which led to the release of two fellow Sikh extremists. Over three decades later, the case is still considered unsolved.

While on parole, Reyet will live in a halfway house in British Columbia and must follow seven other conditions including consultations with a mental health professional and is prohibited from possessing materials to make explosives.
