The first anniversary of the shooting rampage that killed two people on the Danforth in Toronto is July 22nd. A ceremony was held today to honour those who died, and the many victims whose lives are forever changed.
It was a sombre ceremony, remembering a senseless act of violence on the Danforth.
29-year-old Faisal Hussain opened fire along the street, shooting randomly into restaurants, and businesses. Injuring and killing people enjoying a summer night in Greektown. Those on the street that night were shaken.
“I saw at least four people shot here by the fountain”, one witness said.
18-year-old Reese Fallon was fatally shot that night. She was planning on attending McMaster University. And 10-year-old Julianna Kozis was also murdered, a child with her whole life ahead of her. Several others were injured permanently.
In the days that followed the tragedy the community mourned together, and a year later, the hurt is still very much alive.
