One person in hospital after apartment fire on Hamilton Mountain

A large fire broke out on Hamilton’s east mountain Wednesday night.
The blaze started just after 10 p.m. in a senior’s apartment complex on Upper Gage Ave. near Mohawk Rd. East.
The Hamilton Fire Department said the fire began in a unit on the 10th floor.
A photo captured shows heavy smoke coming from the unit that filled the sky.
Paramedics treated a resident from the 10th floor for smoke inhalation and transported them to a hospital.
The apartment unit sustained significant fire and smoke damage estimated to be around $250,000 to $300,000.
Fire crews said the cause of the blaze is unknown at this time.
