The blaze started just after 10 p.m. in a senior’s apartment complex on Upper Gage Ave. near Mohawk Rd. East.

The Hamilton Fire Department said the fire began in a unit on the 10th floor.

A photo captured shows heavy smoke coming from the unit that filled the sky.

Paramedics treated a resident from the 10th floor for smoke inhalation and transported them to a hospital.

The apartment unit sustained significant fire and smoke damage estimated to be around $250,000 to $300,000.
