One person in custody after fatal crash in Welland: Niagara police

Niagara Regional Police are investigating a fatal crash in Welland.

It happened in the area of Webber Rd. and Murdoch St. at approximately 7 a.m. Monday.

Police say bystanders tried rescuing the trapped driver after the vehicle rolled over and landed in the ditch, but were unable to do so due to intense flames. The driver died at the scene.

Police say the man was driving a Grand Prix on Webber Rd in a group of vehicles before the crash. The cause of the Grand Prix losing control remains under investigation.

Another driver in the group was arrested at the scene.
