Man dies in townhome fire in Hamilton’s west end

A man has died following a massive townhome fire in Hamilton’s west end Monday morning.
Firefighters say they received reports around 8:30 a.m. of a structure fire at 1967 Main St. West, near Filman Road.
Officials say when they approached the area they saw heavy flames coming from the second floor, spreading to the third floor of a three-storey townhouse unit.
Crews rushed into the burning building after neighbours told them that someone was still inside of the home.
Firefighters found the man on the second floor and brought him outside to paramedics. Officials say he died at the scene.
Animal services also retrieved an exotic bird in the townhome.

Hamilton police are holding the scene.
