One person is dead after a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Toronto.

Police report a car was travelling northbound on Pharmacy Avenue when it lost control and hit a pole near Eglinton Avenue East, in Scarborough, around 2:30 a.m.

Witnesses tell police the car was going at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

As a result of the impact, rescue crews had to use the jaws of life to get to the driver out of the car.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s age and gender have not been released to media.

The investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
