(Update)

A deadly crash in Ancaster has left one man dead. Three vehicles crashed Thursday morning and while police haven’t said what caused it yet, people living in the area say the collision was so loud it could be heard a half a kilometre away. As Melissa Raftis tells us, residents say people often drive down the road at dangerous speeds.

Around 6am, three cars driving down Trinity Road collided between Butter and Book sending all three cars into the ditch. One of the drivers, a male, was killed in the crash.

Another driver, a man with serious injuries, was taken to nearby Ancaster Fairgrounds where he was air lifted to hospital.

Police say he remains in hospital. A third driver, a female, was also treated for injuries but has since been released. There were no passengers in any of the cars.

Henry Mostert ran to the scene after hearing the crash: “I heard it from inside the house and that’s about 400 meters away so that was quite a bang. One man was unresponsive and the other two just came to.”

The speed limit on Trinity Road is posted at 80km per hour but people who live in this area say many drive much faster. They say it’s common to see drivers passing other cars on this Hilly Road even though there is a solid yellow line.

“It really gets to you when you hear of people dying for a senseless reason like this.”

The road remained closed even after the vehicles were towed away. As the Hamilton police reconstruction team tried to determined what happened.

Constable Debbie McGreal is wit the Hamilton Police: “They’ll be looking at all possible factors that may have caused the collision. It’s a tragic incident and we do have a fatality.”

Police have yet to release the names or ages of any of the victims. A hydro pole was hit in the crash and the road is still closed at this hour as Hydro One crews work to replace it. Police say we may know more about how this crash happened Friday morning.
