‘Once it’s out there, you can’t get it back’ OPP warns about sharing intimate photos

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding residents about the risks of sharing intimate photos online after an extortion incident in Norfolk County.
Police were contacted by a resident shortly after 8 p.m. on Nov. 5.
Investigators learned the resident had been “friended” online by an unknown woman and the pair began chatting.
Police say intimate photos were shared during their conversations.
The victim was later contacted by another person claiming to be a lawyer who demanded $1,500 or they would report the photos to Interpol.
OPP says no funds were transferred and police were contacted immediately.
“Police are urging all computer users to be aware of the dangers of engaging in online web chats where explicit conversations and images are shared,” said Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP in a news release.
