Transit line named after Hazel McCallion as she celebrates 101 birthday

Mississauga’s longest-standing mayor, Hazel McCallion received a special gift on Monday for her 101st birthday. The Hurontario Light Rail Transit Project will be named “The Hazel McCallion Line”
Hazel says, “I’ve had many things named after me this one is really unusual. Quite unique. Buildings is one thing but a line? It’s quite different.”
Construction of the 18 kilometre line to connect Mississauga and Brampton is already underway. It is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
The former Mississauga mayor also commented on the government’s handling of the pandemic; she says politicians are doing their best to look after people. She also made reference to the protest convoy. “The premier declaring an emergency is great. I think we have to be able to keep our bridges and roads and services open for people. Protesting is alright, but illegal ones are not.”
After 36 years as Mississauga’s mayor, and 101 years of accomplishments, Hazel McCallion has a message, “you have to be positive about life and realize you’re on this earth for a purpose. You should decide what you want to accomplish while you’re here and set out to do it. With commitment hard work and working with people.”
