Olympian accused of murdering girlfriend

Police received a call around 3am local time saying there had been a shooting at the 26-year-old double-amputee runner’s home in a gated housing complex in Pretoria.

There’s speculation Pistorius may have mistaken Reeva Steenkamp for an intruder.

South Africa has a high crime rate, and it’s not unusual for homeowners to keep weapons to protect themselves.

Police recovered a 9-mm pistol and say there did not appear to be any signs of forced entry.

Hours earlier, Steenkamp had tweeted her excitement about Valentine’s Day.

According to authorities, there had been ”previous incidents” at the home, ”allegations of a domestic nature.”

Nicknamed the ”Blade Runner”, Pistorius ran with the aid of prosthetic limbs during last year’s London Olympics, the first Paralympian to compete in the able-bodied games.
