Oldest RHLI member dies

The oldest known soldier with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry has died. William Dickens Parker was 102.

He was wounded in WWII – shot in the arm in 1944 leading a battalion in France. Parker was a lawyer when signed up for the regiment shortly after the Dieppe Raid in 1942. When he returned to Canada, he became a judge, retiring in 1989.

Twelve years ago, Parker received France’s highest military honour for his service.
