OFM investigates St. Catharines house fire

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate a fire at a home in St. Catharines.

Emergency crews were called to 25 Chelsea St. around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home but no flames could be seen from the exterior.

Four people and one of the family’s pet cats managed to get out safely before crews arrived on scene. Two of the residents were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

One cat died in the fire while another is still missing.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
