The Hamilton Fire Department confirmed the discovery of a second dead body 11 days after a multiple-alarm house fire.

Fire crews responded shortly after 9 a.m. on Feb. 17 for a report of a structure fire at 69 Century St. between Ashley St. and Wentworth St. North.

Officials say during the Ontario Fire Marshal’s investigation at the residence, heavy equipment was used to deconstruct the upper floors of the house.

After the roof was removed, and the third floor was in the process of being dismantled, fire crews confirmed that a second body was located.

Crews say the body was found in an area of the house that they were unable to access during firefighting operations due to the interior structural collapse and heavy fire.

One person was initially found dead and five others were taken to hospital.

There is no word on how the fire started, but the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is still investigating.
