Officer assault captured on cell phone camera

An attempted arrest quickly escalated to a brawl after two Brampton teens violently fought off a Peel Police officer. Most of the incident was caught on a cell phone camera. The video shows the 16-year old girl attempting to fight off the officer. A 15-year old girl is later seen getting involved in the altercation. The officer pepper sprays the teen, who is still trying to get away. The second girl separates the two and they run off. Seconds later, backup officers arrive and eventually arrest both girls.

Peel Regional Police are applauding the officer’s actions. “I think she showed amazing restraint given the circumstances” says Const. Fiona Thivierge.

On top of trespassing, the 16-year old is being charged with assaulting an officer and escaping lawful custody. The other is being charged with obstructing and assaulting an officer, and assisting in escape from lawful custody.
