Oakville smoking bylaw

Smokers in Oakville will have to butt out within 9 metres of all town-owned playgrounds, sports fields, basketball and tennis courts, splash pads and skate parks.

Signs stating the new bylaw will be installed in Oakville next year.

Town officials are also trying to find out how to enforce the bylaw and what the costs will be.

Town staff have previously said prohibiting smoking within certain areas of the Oakville parks would cost $45,000 to enforce, $20,000 to advertise the new restrictions and $35,000 for the additional ‘no smoking’ signs.
